چکیده

Business Artifacts are the core entities used by businesses to record information pertinent to their operations. Business operational models are representations of the processing of business artifacts. Traditional process modeling approaches focus on the actions taken to achieve a certain goal (verb-centric).Business artifact-centric modeling starts by identifying what is acted upon (noun-centric), and constructs business operational models by identifying the tasks/actions that business actors execute to add business value. In this paper, we identify important classes of properties on artifact-centric operational models. In particular, we focus on persistence, uniqueness and arrival properties. To enable a static analysis of these properties, we propose a formal model for artifact-centric operational models. We focus on persistence, uniqueness and arrival properties. We show that the formal model guarantees persistence and uniqueness. We prove that while checking an arrival property is undecidable in general, under a restricted version of the formalism, an arrival property can be checked in EXPTIME .

Verifiable UML Artifact-Centric Business Process Models (Extended Version)

Artifact-centric business process models have gained increasing momentum recently due to their ability to combine structural (i.e., data related) with dynamical (i.e., process related) aspects. In particular, two main lines of research have been pursued so far: one tailored to business artifact modeling languages and methodologies, the other focused on the foundations for their formal verificat...

Towards Formal Analysis of Artifact-Centric Business Process Models

Business process (BP) modeling is a building block for design and management of business processes. Two fundamental aspects of BP modeling are: a formal framework that well integrates both control flow and data, and a set of tools to assist all phases of a BP life cycle. This paper is an initial attempt to address both aspects of BP modeling. We view our investigation as a precursor to the deve...

A Data-Centric Design Methodology for Business Processes

This chapter describes a design methodology for business processes and workflows that focuses first on “business artifacts”, which represent key (real or conceptual) business entities, including both the business-relevant data about them and their macro-level lifecycles. Individual workflow services (a.k.a. tasks) are then incorporated, by specifying how they operate on the artifacts and fit in...

Verification of Semantically-Enhanced Artifact Systems (Extended Version)

Artifact-Centric systems have emerged in the last years as a suitable framework to model business-relevant entities, by combining their static and dynamic aspects. In particular, the Guard-Stage-Milestone (GSM) approach has been recently proposed to model artifacts and their lifecycle in a declarative way. In this paper, we enhance GSM with a Semantic Layer, constituted by a full-fledged OWL 2 ...
